The new 4th generation Skoda Fabia has officially been revealed for international markets. Based on the MQB A0 platform, the new Fabia is now much larger than its predecessors, packs in new tech and gets updated engines.

New Skoda Fabia: Design
The Skoda Fabia’s design language is in line with the Skoda family design that we see on the likes of the Kushaq and even the updated Kodiaq. The car seen here in its top spec form, features full LED headlamps that are angled aggressively and flank the large grille. The front bumper too features large vents and plastic trim that complete the aggressive front end, although it doesn’t look as sporty as it’s Seat counterpart, the Ibiza. Skoda also offers alloy wheels ranging from 15-inch to 18-inch in diameter and features like a full panoramic roof. At the rear, the Fabia gets a familiar design with LED tail lamps that are similar to the likes of Skoda’s larger vehicles. The design has also made the Fabia a lot more aerodynamic, with a drag coefficient of 0.28 as compared to the previous gen’s 0.32.
Skoda Fabia: Size
The new Skoda Fabia has now become larger than its predecessor. Based on the MQB A0 platform, the new Fabia is now 111mm longer than before at 4108mm. Most of this added length can be found in the wheelbase that has now grown by 94mm to offer most space to rear passengers. The hatchback is also 48mm wider, which will also contribute to the extra interior room. The Fabia also gets a larger boot now at 380-litres with the seats up or 1,190-litres with the seats folded flat.
New Skoda Fabia: Interiors
As is typical with Skodas, the new Fabia’s interiors feature a two-spoke steering wheel and relatively cleanly designed interiors. The hatchback also gets a digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster on the top-spec variant for the first time. Other features include dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel and windshield, LED ambient lighting and rear AC vents. The free-standing touchscreen infotainment system is available in three different versions depending on the variant. The smallest one of the lot is a 6.5-inch unit, while the larger 8-inch and 9.2-inch touchscreens get features like wireless Apple CarPlay. The Fabia also comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot and gets five USB C charging slots, including one in the inside rear-view mirror in case users want to mount a dashcam.
Skoda Fabia: Engines
The Skoda Fabia will be powered by a range of petrol engines and will not get any diesels on offer. The base model cars will get the 1-litre MPI, naturally aspirated motor that makes either 65hp or 80hp. This engine is mated exclusively to a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is also a 1-litre TSI engine, similar to the one we get in India offering either 95hp or 110hp. While the lower powered variant gets only a 5-speeed manual, the higher-powered variant gets the option of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG. Both the 1-litre engines are 3-cylinder units. The range-topping engine however is the 1.5-litre TSI making 150hp and 250Nm of torque and is mated exclusively to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. This range-topping version gets from 0-100kph in just 7.9-seconds with a top speed of 225kph.
Skoda Fabia: India Plans?
While the Volkswagen Polo still continues in India in its oldest format, albeit with regular updates over a decade, the Skoda Fabia was discontinued in India a while ago. This new current-gen Fabia is based on the MQB A0 platform and measures well over the 4-metre mark in terms of length which would put it into higher tax brackets in India. Also, with Skoda concentrating on their SUV strategy for India, we do not expect to see the new Fabia making it to our shores. The company will introduce the Kushaq SUV in the coming months along with the facelifted Kodiaq in the Indian market. Also, there’s an all-new sedan in the works that will most likely see a world debut later this year.
