2021 Jeep Wrangler prices expected to drop

Jeep’s off-roader was previously brought in as a CBU – under the law that allowed the import and sale of 2,500 vehicles a year without them having to be homologated – and priced from Rs 63.94-68.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). We expect the 2021 Wrangler prices to reduce by a significant margin as taxes on locally assembled cars are lower.

At launch in August 2019, the fourth-gen Wrangler Unlimited was available in the fully-loaded Sahara trim and in five-door guise. Standard kit includes a 7.0-inch multi-info display, an 8.4-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, rear AC vents and multiple 12V sockets and USB ports. Additionally, the infotainment screen also displayed a variety of off-roading relevant details, from axle status and steering angle to the altitude, longitude and latitude. Pitch and roll angles are also displayed. Four airbags, ABS with EBS, front and rear parking sensors, a rear parking camera, ESC, electronic roll mitigation, traction control and hill-start and descent control are the safety features on offer.

A 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine making 268hp and 400Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed torque-converter automatic, powered all four wheels of the Wrangler.

The hardcore Wrangler Rubicon was introduced in March 2020 – Jeep claims it is its most capable SUV ever. It features a two-speed transfer case with a 4:1 ‘4LO’ low-range gear ratio, full-time torque management, electronic locking differentials at the front and rear, and an electronically-operated sway bar that enhances articulation and travel. The Rubicon stands 2mm higher than the standard Wrangler Unlimited (at 217mm) and approach, breakover and departure angles (43.9, 22.6, 37) have improved by 2.1degree, 1.6degree and 0.9degree, respectively. It also gets 17-inch gloss-black alloy wheels shod in 255/75R17 Mud Terrain tyres, which marks the Rubicon apart visually.

The specifications and features list of the locally assembled 2021 Jeep Wrangler have yet to be revealed, though those details, along with the price, will become known on March 15.
